I was a couple of days late to sign up for last cycle, so I've been lurking around, trying to get the feel of things, and what the judges like, what the rules are and all that jazz. It's safe to say I'm a newcomer to this as far as this format of competition goes. However, I am not a newcomer to these "Blank" next top model type competitions, with three wins under my belt on different forums, and numerous top 3 finishes.
As a user, the celebrities I choose tend to be able to do a balance of commercial and high fashion. I chose Gemma this cycle because she is stunningly beautiful, and I'm sure I will blow the judges away with her photos. I also have my choice for next cycle lined up: A high-fashioned Asian beauty.
I would like to just size up my current competition at this stage, and give my thoughts on the potential of each of them.
Angelina Jolie: Angelina is a beautiful woman with a large, but not necessarily diverse portfolio. She has those big beautiful lips, and those strong, defined cheekbones. Her strengths are definitely going to be the beauty, sexy and commercial photos. Unfortunately, due to her status as a sex symbol of our time, this is also her weakness, as it will be difficult to produce a great high-fashion photo.
Beyoncé: Beyoncé certainly has a great voice, and a great, commercial and relatable look. Though she does have a few high-fashion photos, they are not necessarily strong, and unfortunately, whenever I've seen Beyoncé in a competition like this, she hasn't made it very far. If used correctly, Beyoncé can mow down the competition.
Estella Warren: She has a very nice 90s look, and a very 90s portfolio. I think the portfolio is quite small, and one-note. Everything seems to look the same. But that was the fashion of the 90s. I think she may struggle, but hopefully, she knows what she's doing.
Freida Pinto: A quick glance at Freida's portfolio, and it's safe to say I am a little intimidated. She has some AMAZING photos; they blew me away. This girl has enough commercial and high fashion photos to take the competition without any hassle. I believe she may be my biggest competition, but I would definitely not mind losing to her, especially if that one photo I saw was used.
Hilary Swank: Hilary has an edgy, androgynous look, and I think she looks amazing with short hair. Unfortunately, she doesn't keep it. Her look can also translate into retro-glamour. I can see Hilary making it very far in the competition.
Jennifer Lawrence: I've actually never heard of her, but Jennifer has the physical appearance of a model. She certainly has that commercial appeal, but for me, the high fashion appeal is lacking. I do look forward to what she has in store for us.
Kendra Wilkinson: A reality TV star, and apparently a glamour model. Sexy shoots are all she has. Unlike a similar looking celebrity I can think of (Aubrey O'Day), I don't think Kendra can bring anything other than sexy to the table. I think she may be first to leave.
Maria Kanellis: A WWE Diva. These Divas have a vast array of pinup and really sexy photos... But that's all they have. Working with a WWE Diva is an extremely difficult task, as they have very little diversity to work with. Hopefully Maria can bring something different.
Mischa Barton: Mischa has a girl-next-door thing going for her. This seems to be an incredible strength in this competition as the past three winners were exactly this type of girl (Though Emma Watson has high-fashion appeal). Unfortunately, I can't see her producing stellar photos, but she does have some pretty good stuff to work with.
Rihanna: Rhianna's portfolio is completely hit and miss. There are some GREAT photos in there, but there's also some really bad photos. Consequentially in this competition, Rihanna will either have hit after hit, or miss and lose the competition. It's a little hard to tell, but I'm not scared just yet.
Selena Gomez: She's YOUNG isn't she?! This girl has LOADS of commercial photos and will excel in commercial based shoots. But she may struggle at high-fashion shoots. That being said, I had a quick look at a gallery for a high-fashion photo-set. It (the photoset) was amazing.
Shilpa Shetty: Shilpa is a beautiful woman, however, I think she may struggle. Shilpa has plenty of commercial stuff, and some movie stills count work for high-fashion shoots. However, I don't see her making it far; Bollywood actors and actresses are particularly hard to play with. I know from experience (But I did come in third with him).
